Introducing aikido

 

Aikido, pronounced ‘eye-key-do’, is a martial way from Japan and is usually translated as a “way of harmonising and coordinating one’s spirit or energy”. Its origins come from the classical arts of Japanese swordsmanship, empty-hand combat, and Eastern philosophy.

Seiichi Sugano sensei (1939-2010)

Sugano sensei was a gifted teacher who had a big influence in establishing aikido in Australia. He had a unique natural ability, and a complete and compelling way of training. We were lucky enough to receive direct instruction from him and through Brisbane Aikikai under the technical lead of Chris Seto-Payne sensei.

Shimamoto sensei personifies the beauty, dignity, kindness, gentleness and compassionate nature of zen and the arts. We are extremely lucky to be affiliated to Shosenji dojo through Bayside Budokai under the technical lead of David Kolb sensei.
